Matty has extensive experience serving as outside general counsel and transaction counsel to startup tech companies and VC firms. He regularly advises clients on venture financings, mergers & acquisitions, SaaS licensing and other commercial transactions, and corporate governance matters. As a Certified Information Privacy Professional in the United States (CIPP/US), Matty also counsels on data privacy and protection matters.
Matty is passionate and knowledgeable about the intersection of law and technology, and he enjoys working collaboratively with entrepreneurs, product teams, and investors to develop innovative solutions that improve people’s lives within the context of legal frameworks. In particular, Matty is inspired to leverage contracts, securities, and intellectual property laws to create positive sum outcomes while ensuring that inventive engineers, business professionals, and artists are rewarded for their hard work and ingenuity.
Prior to practicing law, Matty co-founded a startup that developed a patented system and methods for automating copyright licensing of music and video content. Matty continues to be an avid music and arts fan, and outside of the office you can find him at concerts, theaters, and museums, as well as surfing in the Pacific, snowboarding in the Sierras, and hiking and biking around the Bay Area.
